John is my cousin. In 2008 I spent about a year on Vancouver Island and John helped me get oriented to Victoria showing me various restaurants and important places to visit. He let me stay in his place for 3-4 weeks while I moved around and I was grateful to get to know my cousin John in this way. We explored various subjects from lifestyle to cuisine to politics and I felt like I understood the value of 'extended family' in a more meaningful way. He really showed me how we can be supportive of each other, regardless of what we have or do not have.
